The Mission: IBe’ Arts and Event Center in Historic Anacostia

IBe’ Event Space Purpose

I am beginning the next step of my professional journey as the new director of this organization. I believe that art allows us to express ourselves, stay sane, and feel enriched. IBe’ Arts and Event Center is an inviting space to conference, collaborate, and create.

IBe’ Arts Motivation

2015 was a tragic year for social justice in the black community. When I decided to retire from Fairfax County Public Schools after 27 years as an educator, I did not know that I would commit myself to art and education for social justice. After witnessing the many videos depicting the treatment of African American youth, especially one in which a little black girl was thrown across the classroom by a School Resource Officer, I had a sinking feeling in my gut.  I said to myself- ‘Enough is enough’.

IBe’ as Community Organizer

photo-4My next step is collaborating, coaching and consulting with stakeholders (i.e. museums, artist, educators and humanitarian organizations) that are committed to advocating for a healthy community.  Arts and education is my passion; I will use all of my gifts and talents to create a new narrative.  IBe’ Arts and Event Center in Historic Anacostia is committed to the arts and education. This is a space and place for building a healthy and humane next generation. You are welcome to join me.
